Billies is the bar that in nineteen-thirties’ Malmö, is a refuge for those on the edge of society’s norms of the day. Billie herself is the matriarch in an unruly family of loyal regular customers. These range from the outspoken Wilhelmine Luchhaus and Lord Chamberlain Ludwig, to the dystopian Möllerström, amateur philosopher Kockum and the regal-looking Miss Stevelius.
When Billies’ bar in Malmö starts hearing reports of how bars in Berlin’s bohemian quarter are being burned down by the masses, how German morality police are persecuting people who deviate from the State’s ideals, anxiety grows that this menacing darkness will spread. As events unfold, a resistance movement begins to form. A resistance that is put to the test when a suit clad man walks into the bar, carrying a missive that turns out to be just as feared, as it was expected.
