I WANT ICE CREAM! – A PERFORMANCE 

What is mum? A place, a certain glance, a mysterious backlight? No one knows why mum is not like other people, why no one manages to leave mum, ever again. Theatre ONT stirs the pot of the family grotesque, listening out for the whispers of childhood. This is a performance that is an expansion, that is a preparation, that is a game for all the living – for the dying and the disappeared. Is it an act of collective accusation, an act of liberation, a happening? Who can sail with no wind? Are you there, mum?

Teater ONT is a performance theatre group made up of Niklas Åkesson and Per Alvsten. Our performance art is narrative, choreographic and interactive. At the juxtaposition between discourse of the stage and discourse of the observer themselves, lies an enormous potential; it is here that that different types of over and under-ranking, marginalisation and hierarchies become visible. Our performances work in the span between the literary and text-based on the one hand, and the physically materialised on the other. We are inspired by the dada movement’s self-imposed freedom in relation to art and society’s normative expectations; we have nothing against describing ourselves as artistically eclectic. We have been active for 20 years and from 2009 to 2011 ran Klubb ONT at Hedmanska Gården on Lilla Torg in Malmö, and 2015 at Skånes Konstförening. At Klubb ONT we hosted numerous musicians, performance artists and poets and carried out ourselves over twenty performance art pieces. In later years, from 2016 onwards, Teater Ont has apart from live performance, dedicated itself to the medium of film and explored the gap between satirical and political film, through among other things, a number of acclaimed film series and campaigns on social media.
