More-Than-Human Bodies – An Open Butoh Workshop

This open workshop invites participants to explore butoh as a practice of listening, presence and connection. Through simple, playful and dynamic exercises, we work with movement influenced by ecology, posthuman thinking and neurocreativity. The body is approached as part of a wider landscape — shaped by materials, forces and environments. No previous dance experience is needed. The workshop offers a shared space for exploration, creativity and well-being, where each participant is encouraged to develop their own personal dance at their own pace. The workshop is held in English.

Who am I?

Mayte Vaos is a choreographer, Butoh dancer, psychotherapist, and artistic researcher with over forty years of international practice. Her work centers on Butoh as a practice of deep listening, embodiment, and transformation, integrating psychophysical theatre, somatic inquiry, psychology, and ecological thinking. She is the founder of Mayte Vaos & the Institute for Creativity and Human Performance (Sweden), where she develops performances, workshops, and research-based laboratories exploring more-than-human bodies, presence, creativity, and healing through movement.

Papperssvalan

I dansföreställningen Papperssvalan inspireras vi av papprets kraft och bräcklighet. Hur kan ett platt papper bli levande och magiskt och skapa en berättelse? Om kreativitetens kraft, tilliten till sin egen resa och om att våga visa sårbarhet. I Papperssvalan utforskar dansen var föremålen slutar och själen tar vid och styrkan i fantasin.

Titeln Papperssvalan står för frihet och möjligheter och pappret i sig – en symbol för både sårbarhet men också kreativitet.   Fåglar har i alla tider haft en framträdande plats i olika kulturer och mytologier världen över. Genom sin förmåga att röra sig fritt mellan jord och himmel har fåglar blivit kraftfulla symboler för frihet, förbindelse och transformation. Inom många ursprungsbefolkningars traditioner har de en central betydelse, då de ofta ses som en förbindelse mellan den fysiska världen och den andliga.

Barnens scen är en arrangerande scen som presenterar scenkonst av hög kvalitet och varierande slag. Memory Wax är en etablerad professionell dansgrupp som är en av Barnens scens husgrupper.

The Paper Swallow

In the dance performance The Paper Swallow, we are inspired by the power and fragility of paper. How can a flat sheet of paper become alive, magical, create a story? It is about the power of creativity, trusting in your own journey, and daring to show vulnerability. In The Paper Swallow, dance explores where objects end and the soul begins and it explores the power of imagination.

The title of the piece, The Paper Swallow, represents freedom and opportunity, and paper itself – a symbol of both vulnerability and creativity. Birds have, throughout history, held a prominent place in cultures and mythologies the world over. Through their ability to move freely between earth and sky, birds have become powerful symbols of freedom, bonding and transformation. In many indigenous culture traditions, birds are of central significance, often seen as a link between the physical world and the spiritual.

Who are we?
Barnens scen is a receiving theatre that showcases different performing arts of high quality. Memory Wax is an established professional dance company and one of Barnens scen’s resident performance companies.
